Happy Easter!
Today a few of us tried to go to Westminster
Abbey for a church service at 10:30. Unfortunately we were about 15 people away
from the front door and they said it was full (we would have been in standing
room anyways). They said we could stand in the courtyard and still hear, but we
decided to go to the church right next door, St. Margaret’s. The church was
beautiful and it was busy when the service started but it wasn’t full which was
nice. The service itself was more showy than what I am used to, but in the end
it was very similar. A couple of differences are that they sing a couple parts
or the pastor kind of stingingly chants versus just speaking. Communion was
different, we got to go up right near the beautiful front of the church, kneel,
and were passed a Eucharist. Two pastors/priests/someone had wine in a cup and
people could sip from it. I chose to dip the Eucharist for two reasons, one was
I didn’t want to drink even for religious purposes and the other was the germs.
The Eucharist absorbed very little so I didn’t have much wine at all, but still
did Communion. The choir was also fabulous, and a lot of the music was in Latin
which was interesting. After the service ended they had a “wine party” to one
side of the front, where a couple people in the group had wine. It was nice
cause we talked to some of the other churchgoers as well as the church
officials. It was really fun overall, though I still want to head to
Westminster at one point for a service to see it.
After church I got lunch and changed, then a couple of us
went to the Spitalfields and Brick Lane markets. I got a cute pearl and bead
bracelet and a dress from a couple stands, both I am happy with (though the
dress smelled like the food they were making in the area with the market. The
food smelled good, but not on my dress). Once back at Nido I washed my dress
and was got dinner, then talked with Bryan until I went to sleep.
