April 6, 2012 - Trip to Oxford, The Cotwolds, Bath, Stonehenge

Friday was a good day overall, though with a shaky start. I got up at 6:45 to get ready to meet the group going on the trip at 7:50. I got ready and packed everything, then went downstairs. We left on time and head to the Great Portland Street Tube station. Once there we found the meeting place and a couple minutes later a little van drove up, and we knew it was the right one since it said International Friends on it. We put our stuff in “the boot” and got on and waited for everyone (14 people total) to show up). First of course we had to drive out of London, we drove by the old Olympic stadium and learned why a marathon is 26.2 miles. The driver/guide was very entertaining, which was good. He told a lot of random facts and history which was amusing.

A pretty field, as soon as we were out of London it turned into a gorgeous landscape of rolling hills
During this part of the trip my little rough start occurred. My SD card decided it didn’t want to save picture onto it. So for the first two and a half stops I used my phone, thank god it has a good camera. Our first stop was Oxford. It was a very crowded area, even though it is a holiday for the students so not many are there. It was nice walking around and we had a 45 minute guided tour around the area, before stopping at a store and returning to the bus. After travelling a bit more travelling we got to a town (village?) called Burford. It was mainly one street, but very very beautiful. We wandered in a couple of the shops (no SD cards L) but got to see some of what they had. We didn’t stay very long so soon we head back to the bus to continue on.

Our next destination was Stow-on-the-Wold. This town/village was also very nice and pretty. Since it was lunch time we had a lunch at a nice pub, which happened to be built in the 900 AD time (947 I believe). So it was pretty cool. Much to my joy there was an electronics store where they had SD cards! So I bought one for my camera and was very happy. We had a bit of time to wander around and saw a lovely church, one of the doors had trees surrounding it on either side making it look really cool. We wandered around a little shop (some really cool stuff!) and then went back to the bus to continue on.

Opening an SD card without scissors = harder than you'd think

Next, we went to Upper and Lower Slaughter (Slaughter meaning marshy area). They were so pretty, and we actually got to walk from Lower to Upper. My favorite part about this (in addition to the prettiness) was the fields we got to walk through with sheep wandering around, though they didn’t want to be pet. Once we made it to Upper Slaughter we met up with the bus and continued on to Bibury.

Bibury was a nice little village, with a couple picturesque houses and roads, and a little trout farm. Due to time constraints we didn’t go in the trout farm but it was really pretty anyways. I could see why people thought it was so nice though, it would be a wonderful place to live. After Bibury we head to Bristol and checked into the hotel. Near the hotel there were really only 2 food options: McDonalds or a Pub, we went for the Pub. I got the fish and chips, and its funny since all the portions are so small, except fish and chips. After the pub we played cards and then went to sleep to get ready for another busy day.
