April 24, 2012
Today was a treat. I slept until 8 and didn't get to work until 10. We stayed at Nido since there was no reason to go in. After starting to work we practiced our final presentation and read through our final report and made edits. At 12 we took lunch until 1:30 which was good. After eating I went to Tesco to get a few things to get me through the week. After lunch we met and worked from one of the top floors, and practiced our final presentation a bit more, until about 3:15/30 when we got ready to head to the church for a run through of our final presentation. It went well and we got good feedback on the content, we just need to work on delivery. I need to slow down, no surprises there.
April 23, 2012
I got up today a little later than normal since I showered last night and we weren't leaving until 9. One thing I did before work today was look at the date for my half marathon, making sure it didn't conflict with anything like JDRF walk. It is the week after that and at the end of A/B term break! I'm happy about the timing since i'll be home the week before and until that Monday. So I won't have to head home right after running. One downside is that it's a break and I am disaffiliated which means that I can't just have a bunch of sisters come, but I still can invite them and remind them not to post pictures for a few weeks. I may also use the half marathon to fundraise, maybe for JDRF since I'll be walking for it the week before.
Anyways, after work we went tot the church to had a spoken through final presentation. We were pleased to have positive feedback. After that I had dinner and relaxed at Nido all evening.

Today was okay overall. I just relaxed in my room until 7 when we had a group meeting. While relaxing I cleaned up and organized so it will be easier to pack later in the week. I really just relaxed all day though. One thing I did was watch Harry Potter, and I saw the house in Lacock I saw! It was cool watching it since I've seen a lot of the sets and everything. That's pretty much all for the day, not too much.

April 21, 2012
I got up at about 8:20 today, ate, then highly contemplated going for a run. As I was planning a route, I got a text from Erin saying she's getting ready to go out now. So my run was put on hold and we head out. We went to Covent Garden, which has a lot of shopping. We started out looking for a store that sells maps, because she wanted to get her grandftaher a specific decorative map. After getting the map we went to Marks and Spencers. They had some Great Britain Olympic gear, which was cute, so I tried some on (it was running clothes) and they fit so well and were awesome. So I decided to get a tank top and 3/4 length pants for me. They are souvenirs and more running clothes.
After Covent Garden we grabbed lunch at a Pret A Manger, then went to Piccadilly Circus and ate while sitting on the steps of the fountain, than went in a touristy shop to look around. We were at the lower end of Regent Street, with Ben's Cookies near it and Erin said she wanted to get a Ben's Cookie, so we did. We then walked to the Tube station and head to St. James's Park. From there we walked to the park and saw a pelican! It was huge, like the size of a small child (there were some near it, so it was very easy to compare). After that we walked to Victoria station and head back to Nido.

I was up at 7 today and ate breakfast, then got ready for work. At 8:30 we met and left for work, arriving at the very full platform, but luckily getting on the first train that arrived. Once at work we got to work finishing up the final presentation, staff materials, and all the writing...so fun! (just kidding) For lunch the cafe was really busy so we decided going out would be easier. We did and went to a place around the corner that was really inexpensive. I got chips and chicken wings, and it was not so great, but it worked. At about 3 we were at a good stopping point so decided to catch the 3:19 train.
Once back, I stopped at Tesco and then ate and got ready to go out with Erin. We went to the British Museum (my 3rd time, haha) and I was happy cause I did see stuff that I hadn't seen. There was a display case I believe called "Cradle to Grave" and it showed a how many pills people take in their life time basically, and showed it through a married couple. It was really cool. I also saw several other things I hadn't seen before.
After the British Museum we planned to go to St. James's Park to look for Pelican's. We ended up heading a different way cause we thought we could get there. We ended up right next to Buckingham rather than farther away from it. We were going to just pass it by but I noticed it had colors on it, and asked Erin if she had noticed it from the last time we saw it at night. She said no so we ran across the street to see what was up. There was a thing going on called "Face Britain" which projected the queen's portrait as well as kid's self-portraits and it's planning on breaking a world record of some sort. It's only going on April 19,20,21 from 8:30-11:15 PM So we really lucked out just happening to stumble on it. I was really happy we saw it. After seeing that we walked to Westminster Station and head back to Nido for the night.

April 19th - Harry Potter!
This morning I woke up at 6:45 AM! Why and exclamation point? It's Harry Potter day! Kate and I head to Liverpool Street Station at about 8:10., got to Euston Station, and bought our train tickets for our journey. Once tickets were bought Kate needed to exchange money, so we did that (we still had about 25 minutes until our train left). We then got on the train and waited until it left, and headed to Watford Junction.
Once at Watford we waited at the station and figured out where the bus would pick us up. We eventually found it and waited about 15 minutes with everyone else waiting to go also. The bus was cool, all decked out in Harry Potter (One of the few pictures I have right now)
Once at the studio tour we picked up tickets without a problem and then went inside. The first room has an entrance to the tour, a cafe area, and a gift shop. We waited for out tour in the gift shop. It was incredible! There was so much Harry Potter everywhere. They had really cute house sweaters, but they were over 50 pounds, so I decided not to. I pretty much chose what I wanted to get people, though there was so much stuff I really wish I had more money.
About 10:25 we queued up and looked at Harry Potter's cupboard under the stairs as we waited to go in. Once through the first set of doors to begin the tour. We entered the first room which was a small hall with electronic posters on the wall with the movie posters from different movies from all over the world which was pretty cool. We then watched a short film about how the movie came about from the books. After that we went into a theatre looking room with lots of comfy chairs. So we took a seat and watched another short film about all the work that goes into the film, such as the costume designers, makeup artists, etc. And how the movie really cam into being. At the end of the short film the doors of the Great Hall appeared, and the screen rose, revealing... the doors to the Great Hall (unfortunately I have no pictures at the moment for that though I really wish I did). The Great Hall was beautiful, a couple of my favorite parts were the dress of Helena Ravenclaw, and the gargoyles which each houses mascot on the wall. In addition to those there were several of the Hogwart's Professor's Robes, which were really cool.
Once through the Great Hall I learned about the producers and directors, a small model of the ceiling of the hall, the front gates of Hogwarts, props and costumes from the Yule Ball (including Hermione's Dress) Hagrid's Hut, Gryffindor boys dormitory, the Gryffinder Common Room, a big Pendulum, Dumbledore's Office, Dolores Umbridge's office, the Weasley's Burrow, the Potions room, Ministry of Magic "Magic is Might" statue, and props from different things including the triwizard cup, rememberall, time turner, the golden snitch, Ravenclaw's Diadem, Gaunt's Ring, Salazar Slytherin's locket, Riddle's Diary, the snakes blocking the chamber of secrets, and gringotts vaults door. It was so cool!
After that area, I moved into the outside part, where I got to see Tom Riddle's grave, Privet Drive, the Potter's Cottage, The Knight Bus (3 story bus!), Hogwart's Bridge, and Wizards chess pieces! That part was fun and then I moved into the next part. The next part was all the creatures and makeup artist type stuff, and animatronics department (such as Hagrid's head!). I saw the models of all sorts of characters, including Dobby! I also saw the Monster Book of Monsters, an owl that moves, mandrakes, I think Voldemort's little body which was really really creepy. In the next room there was Buckbeak and a dragon, and a basilisk head! The next room was another one of my favorites: Diagon Alley! It was so cool, the front of Gringotts was there was well as all the shops on a cobblestone type road. There was Ollivander's, an ice cream parlor, the robe making shop, and all sorts of awesome shops.
Once through Diagon Alley I moved into the design department with all the white model things of the castles and all the sets so they could decide on camera angles when they were figuring everything out. After all the little models the next room was possible my favorite: the model of Hogwarts they used for all the sweeping shots and the ones farther away from the castle. It was really awesome to see the entire grounds of Hogwarts with all the buildings and everything. After the model there was the last room with tons of wand boxes everywhere. Each wand box had a different name on it, and they are the 4000 or so people who worked on the film. It was a really cool way to do credits.
After the studio tour we went through the gift shop again and went shopping, I got a couple keychains for people and a time turner keychain for myself (cause it was really really cute!) Of the day my few favorite things were Ravenclaw's Diadem which had on it inscribed "Wit beyond measure is mans greatest treasure". It was beautiful. Another of my favorites was Diagon Alley, it was so cool to walk down, my other favorite was the model of Hogwarts Castle. It was an absolutely incredible ending to the tour. You know, pretty much everything was really cool, lol.

I got up this morning at 7:00, had breakfast and got ready for my commute. We left right about 8:30 and caught the tube, it was much better than yesterday. We had room to breathe on the tube which was nice! The train was running late again, but not as bad as yesterday. I think that it has something to do with the weather, the past couple days have been dreary and rainy which may be the cause. Oh well, at least we got to work on time!
Once at work we divided up, I worked on the staff presentation, and everyone else did different parts. I'm excited since pretty much all the deliverables are a result of my work, which is kind of cool. After working until noon, we had lunch them prepared for our advisor/sponsor meeting. Unfortunately both were late, so we started late, but it was really good and we had good feedback.
After finishing up work we left and head back to Nido. It was a very pleasant trip, it went very smoothly which was nice. Back at Nido I had a pizza for dinner, than met with my group, then did some fun laundry.

The scene: A cold dreary and rainy London day. I am in my sweater, dress pants and green jacket.
My commute begins walking to Liverpool Street Station and getting on the platform to get on the tube, with 300 other people. There were people filling the platform, in most areas over 7 people deep. It was
the most full I've ever seen it and there were people on the stairs waiting also. The first train comes, fills up very quickly, then leaves. The next train comes and we get on, a bit concerned as we might miss our Train (like train versus Tube train).
We arrive at Farrigdon right about when our train normally leaves. It's okay though, it's delayed, by about 6 minutes. Somehow 3 trains are going to arrive within 2 minutes of each other, thoroughly puzzling me. We continue waiting and finally our train comes 12 minutes late.
Once on the train we relax. It's warm and now we just sit and wait until we get to our stop. Until they announce they will be stopping at 2/about 5 stations, ours not included. So we get off the next stop (closest to ours and in our zone) and plan to find a bus to take us to work.
So we find a bus that will get us nearer where we need to be and it should be arriving in 1 minute. Now 1 minute in the cold...annoying but bearable.... about 5 minutes later the bus comes. By this time I am freezing and cold, luckily in the bus thing so I'm not wet from the drizzling rain. We get on this bus which slowly gets us to a stop
that's useful. We got off at the useful stop and see which bus we can take from there. Oh wait we need to walk down the street to get the next bus. So we do then catch our next bus.
Finally we get to work at 10:32. We left at 8:30....
Once at work we worked in the board room all day and I mainly worked on the staff presentation, it's coming along nicely. We ended up leaving about 3:10, so we could try to catch the bus to Eastfields station. But the normal bus station we use was not having the normal buses picking up there, so we had to take a walk down the street, though we missed the train so we took the bus to Colliers Wood where we could take the Northern line back to the station. It was a very long day commuting.

Today I woke up at 7:10 and got ready to leave for 8:30.
Getting to Commonside was pretty nice, the commute went smoothly, though it was
a bit chilly out which was annoying. Once at work we got down to work. I mainly
worked on the final presentation and staff materials for the project. The day
overall was pretty average, we got back quick enough. I went grocery shopping
back near the Liverpool Street Station and got some chocolate croissants and
other fun stuff. I then had food and took a short nap, then talked to Bryan
until 7 when we had a group meeting.
April 15, 2012
This morning I woke up at about 8:00, and then about 8:45. I
woke up with a headache the first time with a headache, but I think it was dehydration
so I had a lot of water before heading out. Erin and I head out about 10:30 and
head to catch a bus to head to Tate Modern. We caught a bus heading towards
London Bridge, but unfortunately it decided to end a couple stops after we got
on. So we then got on another bus, which also stopped early. So we walked
toward the Thames, saw the Globe (from the outside) and then saw a big building…the
Tate Modern.

Modern Art |
I have decided I hate modern art. It’s silly. It’s too much amount
the attention and not enough about the actual piece of work itself. One of the
first pieces I saw was a mirror. I hate that some pieces of modern art I could
have done. After the modern art we had lunch at Pret A Manger. I had a surprisingly
good sub with brie, tomato and basil, and I also had chips. After lunch we
walked to the Globe, decided not to go on, walked to the London Eye, decided
not to go on today, and decided to go to Kensington.

Kensington Palace was cool, but weird. Like there was some
sort of storyline but it was really confusing and we had no idea how to follow
it. One of my favorite parts of it was seeing Princess Diana’s dresses (well,
five of them). After the Palace we head back to rain (it started raining) and I
had dinner. Then our project team got to work since we have so much fun stuff
to do in the next two weeks!

This morning I got up at 7:30 and had a chocolate croissant
and yogurt for breakfast. At 9:30 Erin and I met up and we took a bus to the
Tower of London. The first thing we did once inside was see the Crown Jewels.
The collection is incredible! There were maces, a Coronation spoon, dishes for
a feast after Coronations, all of solid gold of course and there were
absolutely beautiful crowns and jewels (and crowns filled with jewels). After
the Jewels (where unfortunately pictures weren’t allowed) we took a tour from a
Yeoman Warden, also called a Beefeater Tour. There were a lot of people on the
tour, but it was really funny and very fun to go on. After the tour we went
into White Tower and Bloody Tower (where prisoners such as Sir Walter Raleigh
were kept). The White Tower was the main center and had a lot of armor in it,
some from King Henry VIII. It also had some gifts from foreign rulers there,
such as a headdress from America. After we walked around on the walls a bit
then decided to get food, and had fish & chips. After our good lunch we
continued working our way around to the building and after we finished looking
around we walked to London Bridge and across it to get to the Tube. We then
took the Tube to Regent’s Park, where we then caught a bus to take us closer to
the side with London Zoo on it. It’s good we didn’t have a car, as car parking
was £14.50. Tickets were expensive already at £20.
The zoo was really fun though, we saw all sorts of animals: lions,
and tigers (no bears) but monkeys, gorillas, giraffes, donkeys, and more! It
was really fun. One of my favorite places was an exhibit where there were
monkeys (squirrel monkeys I think) and they could jump all around and you could
walk around a path. Unfortunately they bite so you can’t play with them but it
was cool they could do what they wanted and you could just watch and see them a
bit. We also saw penguins and the reptile house, including where one of the
Harry Potter scenes was filmed!
Overall it was a really long but good day and we got back to Nido
a little before 7 and I was exhausted.

This morning I got up at 8:00 since we were working mainly
from Nido. I got ready and head up 1 floor to the 4th floor commons
room to work (the 3rd floor outlets don’t work). We worked until
noon, when we broke for an hour for lunch, then went back to work until 2:50,
so we could get ready for an interview. The original time of the interview was
3:30 PM, but was pushed an hour to 4:30 since the person had prior commitments,
the late time was a bit obnoxious but since it was an important interview we
went with the time change.
We left at 3:20 and caught the Northern line to Morden, near
where the interview was. We were told it would be about a 15 minute walk, and
after about 10 minutes we were still not near it so checked our maps and
decided why we were not close. We apparently missed a turn we needed, but I got
us back on track and we ended up being just a few minutes late (not good but it
happens when we get a bit lost). After the interview, which went pretty well,
we head back to Morden station and took the Tube back to Nido.
Once back at Nido I was planning on texting Erin to ask her
what she wanted to do tonight, but she had emailed me, so we talked briefly and
I told her I wanted to go (because Bryan said I should) to Hamley’s and Ben’s
Cookies. She was up for it so after dinner we met up and head to Oxford Circus.
At Ben’s Cookie’s I got 2 cookies, a milk chocolate and double chocolate chunk.
Both were absolutely delicious, my favorite was the milk chocolate chunk one.
Hamley’s was also really really cool, it was a 5 story toy store (though one
floor was under renovation). I liked the top floor because they had legoes,
including the lego royal wedding, a lego crown, and a lego queen. They also had
a lego telephone box which was pretty cool.
After Hamley’s we walked a bit and eventually got back to
Nido around 10. I mapped it out, we ended up walking about 3 miles because from
Hamley’s we walked by Trafalger Square, down near Parliament, through part of
St. Jame’s Park, and by Buckingham Palace before heading back onto the tube.

April 12, 2012
Today I got up at 7:00 again as we were heading in at 8:30
again. Getting to work went well and we worked on all sorts of the stuff we
needed to get done. We had to leave early since we had to leave work early
since we had our Data and Analysis presentation for 20 minutes, with one
professor. We ended up having a meeting with 2 of them for 40 minutes somehow.
After the meeting I relaxed and had dinner then we then started
working at 7:30 PM then finished about 9:00 PM. It was frustrating…
April 11, 2012
This morning I got up at 7:00, showered, had my chocolate
croissant and got ready for work. We met for work a half hour early at 8:30
again and head to Mitcham. Everything went smoothly and we got to work at about
9:40. Once at work we did the stuff we
needed to. For lunch we went to the café and I had breakfast for lunch.
After lunch the advisors came to meet with us, so we had our
meeting with them and Andy. Once they left me did some work then registered for
Unit Ops (since it was impossible to register for it yesterday). Once
registered we continued working until 3 when we head back; once back I got a
drink and then got dressed to go for a run. My run went well and brought me
over London Bridge, by a ton of people on the South Bank (including the Globe
and the London Eye). I crossed over to the North Bank on Westminster Bridge
near the Parliament Houses, and then ran back towards the Gherkin. Running on
the North Bank was nice, there were a lot fewer people. I ended passing
Westminster, Embankment, and Temple, then took Blackfriars back to Liverpool
Street. I enjoyed this run and think I did about 4.35 miles which is pretty
good since I haven’t run outside in awhile. Once back I grabbed food and drink
and talked to Bryan, showered and then had to work for the night a bit.
Working went okay, we met at 7:30 to work on stuff, then at
about 10 we finished thank god and then I talked to Bryan finished uploading
pictures from the weekend and updated my blog a bit, then slept!
April 10, 2011
Today the group left for work at 8:30 instead of 9, so I got
up at 7:00. I had yogurt and a chocolate croissant for breakfast (it was good).
The way to work was busy but it went fine, and we got to work about 9:40 or so,
about 30-50 minutes earlier than normal which was good. Once at work we got
down to business and discussed with our sponsor what we feel our deliverable is
to make sure that it is on par with what was expected. Luckily it was which was
a relief. After our talk we worked on some things we needed to get done before
switching rooms and having lunch. We had lunch at the café, since the lunch
club takes a lot longer, and after food we went back to work. We had to leave
about 2:20 since we had a meeting with our adviser’s at 3:40, and head back to
Liverpool Street Station to meet with them.
The meeting went surprisingly well with the adviser’s saying
we were getting back on the right track (though we hadn’t changed anything for
the past week!) We decided meeting right after we got back to Nido as well as
from 7 until we were done would be good, so we met and made a schedule then
broke for food (and got internet back!) then we went back to work. I got to
talk to Bryan then my dad before getting back to work at 7. We worked on our
Conclusion and Recommendation outline. After working I talked to Bryan and then
got up at 2 (Bryan registered for classes for me J)
But no one could sign up for Unit Operations, which was annoying.

April 9, 2012
This morning I woke up to a not-so-nice surprise –no
internet! At first I thought it was just cause our 30 days expired, but nope.
It was that the entire 3rd and 4th floor internet (pretty
much everyone at WPI included) was down. This was incredibly annoying for
everyone. I got up about 8, then got food and attempted a run on the treadmill.
After a slight warmup walk to loosen my legs I tried running and decided it was
not my day, since I felt sick trying to run, so I walked for about 10 minutes
and then did leg swings to loosen my legs and lifted weights a bit. Then I
showered and got dressed. After getting dressed I decided what I wanted to do
before I left England. Unfortunately I don’t think I’ll be able to go to Dover,
which is disappointing, but I’ve done a lot and will be happy if I do the rest
on my list. I then went to the National Gallery again to see some of what I
missed, including Van Gogh’s Madonna on the Rocks. Then I went to the smaller
National Portrait Gallery behind it where I saw
a lot of the works displayed, though focused on seeing the Tudors around
the time of Elizabeth I since that is one of my favorite pieces of British
History.
Once finished the Galleries, I took the Tube back to Nido
for lunch, then head out again to the British Museum to finish seeing what I
want to there, such as the rest of the Egypt section as well as the Assyrian
and Grecian section. So I saw a bunch
more of it, and then head back to Nido. I wanted to see the Globe Theatre but
it was not near any tube stops and I don’t know the buses well, so I got off at
a Tube stop and then walked across Tower Bridge, then took a bus back to
Liverpool Street Station. It was gross weather which is never fun. After this I
had dinner and relaxed, until getting an email from the adviser’s saying that
we are off track and essentially doing awful. This was not good, so the team
had a meeting to discuss how we would deal with this and work on a schedule of
what needed to get done this week. After that I tried skyping with Bryan via my
phone but couldn’t so went to sleep.

April 8th - Easter
Happy Easter!
Today a few of us tried to go to Westminster
Abbey for a church service at 10:30. Unfortunately we were about 15 people away
from the front door and they said it was full (we would have been in standing
room anyways). They said we could stand in the courtyard and still hear, but we
decided to go to the church right next door, St. Margaret’s. The church was
beautiful and it was busy when the service started but it wasn’t full which was
nice. The service itself was more showy than what I am used to, but in the end
it was very similar. A couple of differences are that they sing a couple parts
or the pastor kind of stingingly chants versus just speaking. Communion was
different, we got to go up right near the beautiful front of the church, kneel,
and were passed a Eucharist. Two pastors/priests/someone had wine in a cup and
people could sip from it. I chose to dip the Eucharist for two reasons, one was
I didn’t want to drink even for religious purposes and the other was the germs.
The Eucharist absorbed very little so I didn’t have much wine at all, but still
did Communion. The choir was also fabulous, and a lot of the music was in Latin
which was interesting. After the service ended they had a “wine party” to one
side of the front, where a couple people in the group had wine. It was nice
cause we talked to some of the other churchgoers as well as the church
officials. It was really fun overall, though I still want to head to
Westminster at one point for a service to see it.
After church I got lunch and changed, then a couple of us
went to the Spitalfields and Brick Lane markets. I got a cute pearl and bead
bracelet and a dress from a couple stands, both I am happy with (though the
dress smelled like the food they were making in the area with the market. The
food smelled good, but not on my dress). Once back at Nido I washed my dress
and was got dinner, then talked with Bryan until I went to sleep.

After the Baths we moved on to a small village called Castle
Coomb (for a few minutes to take pictures). It was a really pretty village
(like all of the Cotswolds are). I wish we could have stayed there longer, but
we soon moved on to the nice village of Lacock. In Lacock I got to see Harry
Potter’s house! There was a really cute cat outside of it also, but it was
mean, almost attacking Erin. We then walked to a little stream flowing through,
and then went up to King John’s Hunting Lodge which is a little restaurant and
tea room. It was really beautiful and really good food. I got tomato and basil
soup, I absolutely loved it. After that we made our way back to the bus area,
though stopped at a shop with wood things to look around (and possibly get a
couple things). Then we made it to the bus right on time.

From Lacock we drove to Stonehenge. Stonehenge was pretty cool, we got there and
it wasn’t super crowded but a bit busy. We went through and under the road to
get there, and got to walk around the circle. It would be a lot better if you
could go up to the rocks and touch them, but you can’t. There were also sheep
which were really cool! Stonehenge was nice to see, not something you need to
spend a ton of time at (though if it was a nice day and you could get closer it
would be so worth it) but really cool to be able to see.

Once done Stonehenge we made our way back to London via
Salisbury, where we could see a huge steeple-thing for a church. Once back in
London we got back to Nido, I made dinner, and then Erin and I went shopping.
The first place we went was absolutely insane. There were clothes strewn about
everywhere and there was a long line for the fitting room. It was bizarre (but
cheap). After our shopping I went back to Nido and relaxed before going to
sleep.
